Director, Tess Cramond Pain and Research Centre, Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital, Australia Dr Conrad Engelbrecht, MBChB, FANZCA, FFPMANZCA, is the Director of the Tess Cramond Pain and Research Centre at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. He also works as a Staff Specialist in Anaesthesia at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
Conrad has extensive experience in pain medicine across both New Zealand and Australia, having worked in public and private healthcare settings in each country. This trans-Tasman experience has given him a broad perspective on the different systems, models of care and practical challenges that shape the delivery of pain medicine. |
His professional interests include the complex intersection between interventional pain medicine and non-interventional biopsychosocial pain management, particularly when both approaches are offered within the same multidisciplinary pain service. He is interested in how pain units can integrate these models thoughtfully, while maintaining clear clinical pathways, appropriate patient selection and continuity of care.
Conrad’s current role combines direct clinical patient care with clinical governance, service leadership and the ongoing development of safe, effective and sustainable pain-management practices.
