Dr Samantha King​

Medicolegal Consultant, Medical Protection (MPS)
Dr Samantha King is a graduate of Otago Medical School.  She has worked in General Practice and A&M clinics in Auckland since 1991 and is a Fellow of the College of General Practitioners.  She also holds a Diploma of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and a Masters in Healthcare Law and Ethics.  She has been with MPS since 2012 and now works full time as a Medicolegal Consultant whilst working part time as a South Auckland GP. As a member of the Medical Protection faculty, Sam regularly presents at workshops, conferences and practices throughout New Zealand.  She has also presented internationally. Sam is married with 3 adult children.  She enjoys fishing off the back of their boat.

Managing your Medicolegal Risks When There Just Isn’t the Right Fit 

Square peg and round hole?  When it comes to prescribing analgesics and anti-anxiety medications there is huge potential for conflict with our patients. Patients often complain about not getting a prescription they want or adverse effects resulting from the prescribing.  So, who gives – the peg or the hole?  What are your risks if you give in? In this presentation we explore practical tips to safe practice when there just isn’t the right fit.
